Man City are looking half decent, Arsenal are perhaps starting to turn a gear, United are winning games without getting out of second gear, yet Chelsea are struggling, it’s been an eventful start to the season hasn’t it? As we wind down on another weekend of football, the Instep is here to cap it off in the best way possible: a round of the weekend’s freshest boot spots. From new boots to boot switches, check out the boot spots that caught our eye this weekend!

Memphis Depay (Manchester United) – Under Armour Speedform

Memphis Depay Man Utd UA Speedform custom edited

I do not know about you guys, but I normally like wearing my boots for a while so they break in and start to feel comfortable. That is not happening for Memphis Depay, the starlet has featured in our past two boot spotting articles wearing customised Under Armour boots. He has made it three from three with the new UA Speedforms he was rocking this weekend. But this time around, he was spotted in a general release colourway, the Capri/Black/After Burn colourway. We do not know what Depay will wear this upcoming week, but hey chances are he will be in our article next week…

Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) – Nike Mercurial Superfly IV Leather

Alexis Sanchez Arsenal SF leather edited

He brought them out a little prematurely last week at training, but Alexis Sanchez has finally been given the green light to wear the Superfly IV released as part of the Nike Tech Pack. And come on, who wouldn’t want a Superfly with a leather upper? Sanchez was the only EPL player spotted in the new Superfly this weekend, and it seems Nike may be keeping tight tabs on the players who can wear the leather reincarnations of Nike’s boots. Which is kinda disappointing, I’m sure there are a lot of pros who would not have knocked back the Tech Pack boots…

Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United) – Nike Mercurial Vapor X

Adnan Januzaj Man Utd Vapor X edited

We have a few surprising boot switches up our sleeve this week, but it was the sight of Adnan Januzaj in the Vapor X that was arguably the most surprising. Despite being one of the headline players for the New Balance Furon (and wearing whiteout Warrior Sports Superheat boots for much of last season), Januzaj has made the unexpected switch to the Academy Pack Vapor X. There is an underlying ripple of dissatisfaction towards the New Balance Furon, which could partially explain the switch by Januzaj, but it will be worth keeping an eye on what boots he ends up with.

Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) – adidas ACE 15.1 Leather

Nemanja Matic Chelsea leather ACE edited

Both Matic and Fabregas pulled the strings in the middle of the park for Chelsea last season rocking the Puma evoPOWER, but that little run was broken this weekend as Matic has made the switch to the leather version of the adidas ACE 15.1. The ACE 15.1 is marketed towards the sort of player Matic is, and adidas will be happy to see the Serbian making the switch to their boot.

Mikel San Jose (Athletic Bilbao) – New Balance Visaro K-Lite

Mikel San Jose Athletic Club NB leather edited

What a stir Bilbao caused last week hey? Beating Barcelona 4-0 is definitely no easy feat, but Mikel San Jose opened the scoring with that spectacular 50 yard pearler that had Marc-André ter Stegen absolutely rooted to the spot. We are here for San Jose’s boots though, as he is the first player we have seen wearing the NB Visaro K-Lite, and by our reckoning, if you combined the technology of the Visaro with a top notch K-Leather upper, the Visaro K-Lite is probably one hell of a boot.

Fernandinho (Manchester City) – Nike Magista Obra

Fernandinho Manchester City Obra edited

Manchester City proved to the world that they are certainly here to compete for the title this season, but it was a monster shift from Fernandinho that put City in good steed against Chelsea. Fernandinho did it all in the Blue/Turquoise Magista Obra, which is the latest chapter in the Fernandinho boot saga. The Brazilian has previously worn the adidas Predator Instinct and adiPure, but it seems he has now settled with the Obra. Which, by the way, provides a cracking match with the Manchester City home kit!

Francis Coquelin (Arsenal) – Nike Tiempo Legend V

Francis Coquelin Arsenal Tiempo V edited

Boot spots of the Nike Tech Pack were few and far between this weekend, but strangely the only two spots of the boots from the pack came from two blokes on the same team as each other…Francis Coquelin showed off the Tiempo offering from the new Tech Pack. It is merely a new lick of paint for the Tiempo though, but it is a more conservative colourway for the Tiempo compared to the Green Strike Tiempo that some of the pros have been wearing.

Eric Dier (Tottenham) – Nike Magista Opus

Eric Dier Tottenham custom Opus edited

Eric Dier is a man who likes his simple, minimal boots. But Dier has moved on from one of the most ‘traditional’ boots in the market in the form of the Speciali to the Nike Magista Opus. It could be argued that this is not the most radical of boot switches, the Magista is arguably the closest match to a synthetic boot when compared to an old school leather boot, but it is also good to see Dier keep up his run of understated colourways by picking up the Opus from the Academy Pack.

That is it for our boot spotting today, what was your favourite spot this week? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
