The weeks seem to have more and more football as time passes hey? With a massive week of Champions League football and some mouth-watering domestic league fixtures, there is only one way to kick start your Monday, and that is with a round of boot spots courtesy of The Instep. New boots, custom boots, some weird boot mismatches, check out what caught our eye this week.

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) – Puma evoSPEED 1.3 Dragon

Segio Aguero Manchester City dragon evospeed edited

Cesc Fabregas debuted the Dragon evoPOWER 1.2 last week, now Sergio Aguero led the line for Manchester City in the evoSPEED reincarnation of the speed boot. While the evoPOWER limited the Dragon theme to the dragon scale design on the heel, the evoSPEED has taken the theme to the next level, thanks to the awesome dragon design running up the instep and outstep of the boots. The boot shows off Puma at its best, as they arguably lead the market when it comes to limited release boots. Aguero did score a debut goal for the boots, but he was helped by Brad Guzan after his shocking clanger that gifted Aguero the goal.

James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) – adidas Primeknit 2.0 and F50 adiZero TRX

James Rodriguez Real Madrid edited

Even though Luis Suarez was thought to be one of the only athletes flying the flag for the Primeknit 2.0, James Rodriguez (as well as Fernando Torres for Atletico) were seen wearing the knitted boot this weekend. However, James then came out in the second half in the F50 adiZero TRX. James did well in the boots though, he scored a brace wearing the Primeknit, but we wonder if any players will stick to the boot on a more permanent basis.

Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – adidas F50 adiZero TRX

Luis Suarez Barcelona F50 adiZero edited

So with other stars wearing the Primeknit 2.0 this weekend, it seems Suarez has been given a reprieve from the boots. He wore the Primeknit in the midweek Champions League tie against PSG before making the switch straight back to the launch colourway F50 on the weekend. It is strange that the Uruguayan only appears in the boot for one game, it does tend to suggest that there is perhaps something not quite right about the Primeknit. Ah well, it is not stopping me getting a pair…

Peter Odemwingie (West Brom) – Mizuno Morelia Neo

Peter Odemwingie Stoke Mizuno Morelia Neo edited

Where has this bloke been in the past few seasons? I still remember when Odemwingie had that brilliant first season for West Brom a few years back after his transfer from Lokomotiv Moscow. Well, it turns out the lad spent a bit of time at Cardiff before an injury has ruled him out for much of this season. Odemwingie has come back in a new pair of boots, and in my opinion they are one of the most criminally underrated boots on the market. The Mizuno Morelia Neo is an absolute beauty of a boot, with Odemwingie making the switch to the Neo from the Nike Magista Opus. It is good to see Mizuno get a little more representation in the Premier League too, the Japanese company pumps out quality boots that we do not get to see too often.

Alex Rodman (Gateshead United) – adidas F50 adiZero

Alex Rodman Gateshead F50 adiZero edited

Let’s make this boot spotting a little bit more retro. That was the feeling I got when I saw Gatehead United’s Alex Rodman busted out the leather version of the first generation F50 adiZero this weekend. He has kept the boots in mighty fine condition too, considering the boot wowed the market about 5 years ago when adidas launched it at the Catalunya raceway alongside Lionel Messi and David Villa prior to the 2010 World Cup. I must admit the ‘Sea of Yellow’ colourways launched for the South Africa World Cup were brilliant too, certainly better than the Battle Pack colourways for the last year’s World Cup…

Cristiano Da Silva (Kashiwa Reysol) – Nike Mercurial Superfly IV (Custom)

Cristiano Da Silva Kashiwa Reysol custom SFIV edited

We do not see them ripped out too often, but it is always nice to see a fully customized NikeiD Superfly IV. Cristiano Da Silva has gone for a predominantly purple Superfly, which has been finished off with a white Nike tick and a black Dynamic Fit Collar. It reminds me of the launch colourway Superfly II, the first boot to feature the retractable Nike SenseStud. Plus it was in the high time of extortionately priced football boots. Those Superfly IIs cost $400. Ouch…

Kerem Bulut (Western Sydney Wanderers) – Nike Mercurial Vapor X

Kerem Bulut Western Sydney double Mercurial edited

The two boot craze is back! Man, I should actually think of a different word or phrase when this actually happens…but just like Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Bulut has gone and wore two different pairs of boots for Western Sydney’s final game of the season against Perth Glory. The striker has been contently wearing the green Vapor X in the past few weeks, but he joined it up with the newly released red colourway for an interesting contrast. The Western Sydney game did get pushed back a little bit after a ridiculous storm had the pitch looking like this before kick off. That is Australian weather for you…
