Is that Monday again already? Yes it is lad, but all that midweek Premier League football that we had this week just made the past week so much better! And with Champions League fixtures this week, there is plenty of footy on our screens at the moment! But of course, we need to wind down from the week that was with the traditional SoccerPro boot spotting. From retro boots to new boots to the odd boot switch, check out the very best boot spots from the week of football just past.
Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) – Nike Mercurial Superfly IV
A fresh round of Nike releases greeted us into last week, with Nike bringing a bit of colour to Winter with a white pack of boots. It is as close as we will get to a whiteout pack of boots from Nike, and it is a refreshing change from some of the bold colourways we have seen in the past 12 months. Alexis Sanchez has been pretty slow this season to switch to the newest boot colours out on the market (he persistently stood by his WC colourway Superflys), but he was amongst a number of players in the new range of Nike boots.
Maya Yoshida (Southampton) – Mizuno Wave Ignitus III
It seems Mizuno does not follow the standard process when it comes to unveiling boots. You know how you go through the standard boot unveiling before you let players wear it? Yeah, Mizuno does the opposite. Maya Yoshida has hardly had a game for Southampton this season, but now that he is playing, we have been able to get a look at the soon-to-be-released White/Red/Black Wave Ignitus III. A handy little release from Mizuno, even if it looks suspiciously like the Wave Ignitus II of the same colour.
Daniele De Rossi (Roma) – adidas adiPure 11Pro
Could this be the shot in the arm that the 11Pro range needed to get a bit more attention on the pitch? While Daniele De Rossi was seen to be trading in his Nitrocharges for the Predator, the hardman has now made the change to the adiPure 11Pro, a boot that is rather under-represented in the big leagues, especially with Xabi Alonso and Toni Kroos failing to make their anticipated moves to the boot. We might have to wait a few weeks until the 11Pro hits the pitch with De Rossi though, the midfielder got sent off in Roma’s draw to Sassuolo.
Alex Song (West Ham) – Puma King
I will have to be honest here, this is a pretty tasty boot spot. With so many players embracing the modern day tech in the boot world these days, Alex Song took things pretty old school with the Puma King that be brought out for West Ham’s game with Swansea on Sunday. Song has been rocking Puma boots this season, but it is surprising to see him backtrack to such an old boot. We know the Kings are notoriously comfy, perhaps this could be a reason for Song’s switch.
Paul Scholes (Team Fabio Cannavaro) – adidas F50 adiZero TRX
Before we get to the boot spot, you have to go check out Scholes’ goal during the Global Legends game in Bangkok on the weekend, blimey, the boy has still got it! Anyway, Scholes did it all in the F50 adiZero TRX….a name that I never thought I would expect to use in the same sentence as F50 adiZero. The United legend has always been one to go for the T90-style of boot, so it is surprising to see the man go for such a lightweight boot, especially amongst a field of players from a bygone era wearing Copas and Tiempo Premiers. With all the injuries Van Gaal is facing, we might see the third coming of Scholesy!
Scott McDonald (Millwall) – adidas adiPure 11Pro
While we have seen players making the switch to the new adiPure 11Pro, nearly every player has been going for the black launch colourway. Scott McDonald is the first player we have seen in the alternative White/Orange colourway, and no we are not going to go down the obvious path and say which boot the 11Pro looks dangerously like. McDonald also wore the Predator Accelerator Instinct in the same game, the striker certainly thinks about the boots he has on his feet!
Charlie Austin (QPR) – Nike Mercurial Vapor I
While Song’s boots were pretty retro, Charlie Austin took things to the next level with the Vapor Is he rocked on the weekend! The QPR striker (who has been in stunning form this season, might we add) has been repping the Vapor X so far this season, but the change to the Vapor I is a rather unexpected spot from the man. Considering that Charlie was hardly in his teens when the Vapor I first came out, we are guessing that he recently dug into his pockets to get the pair of boots for himself, and what a pair of boots they are…
Luis Figo (Team Luis Figo) – Nike Magista Opus (Custom)
While Scholesy played for Fabio Cannavaro’s side in Bangkok’s Global Legends game, Luis Figo fronted the opposition in a match that featured the likes of Cafu, Kluivert and Jens Lehmann. While Figo’s boots look like your run-of-the-mill Magista Opus boots on the surface, it is the outsole that we are much more interested in. The clear studs reminds us of the similar type of studs that we once saw rocked by Iniesta back in the CTR360 III days. The outsole is similar to the Nike Interact soleplate from years ago, but it is an interesting customisation from the Portuguese legend either way.
