Eden Hazard Mercurial Vapor

Nike presented Eden Hazard with his own custom boots for the final match day of the 2014-15 Barclays Premier League season. The accolades continue to mount for the Premier League winner, including the Professional Footballers Association’s Player of the Year.

The white Mercurial Vapor X boots feature a dominant blue lightning bolt design on the sides of both shoes. The colors coordinate with Chelsea’s home kit. The outsole is black along with the sock liner and Nike branding elements. Hazard uses the traditional Vapor X stud pattern.

This one-off special edition shoe symbolizes Hazard’s playing style: pace, flair & trickery. On the instep of the boots, the lightning bolt design spells out ‘Hazard.’ Nike gave Eden the only pair in existence.

Nike included a timestamp on the outer heel of both shoes. It includes Eden Hazard’s initials, the match date, and a phrase in French, ‘Rein ne mew touché,’ which translates to English as, ’Nothing touches me.‘ This phrase alludes to the forward’s intelligent ability to dibble at opponents or move off the ball to open up himself or teammates for opportunities to score. A triangular Belgian flag is also included on the heel cup.

Eden Hazard has enjoyed his soccer this season. The Belgian international scored 14 goals and added 9 assists. Hazard was second in both categorizes for Chelsea. Although they are not league-topping stats, Hazard has been a menace to Premier League opponents this season. He completed the most successful dribbles, won the most fouls and he lead the league in chances created.

Hazard won the PFA Player of the Year award by beating out Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester United’s David de Gea. This award is considered the top individual award in the Premier League because it is voted on by their colleagues.

Hazard arrived at Stamford Bridge during the summer of 2012. The forward lit up Ligue 1 in France with 50 goals before his 22nd birthday. Hazard won the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year award in 2010-11 as the youngest player to earn that honor. Hazard attracted the interest of Chelsea Football Club’s owner Roman Abramovich along with many other European suitors.

Hazard played in the first 37 of 38 matches this season for Chelsea. He almost missed playing in the final match of the season because of an emergency wisdom teeth surgery. Hazard did manage to play on the final match day, but did not wear his custom boots.

I don’t think I would have either. What a beautiful gift from Nike.
