If Nike are making a pair of boots to your specifications, it surely shows you are a pretty special player for them. Cristiano Ronaldo is the only Nike footballer in Europe’s top leagues who has his own signature series of football boots, and today marks the launch of the seventh boot in the famed Cristiano Ronaldo series of Mercurial football boots. Nike always try and be a little different when it comes to the CR7 Vapor, and they certainly have not disappointed with the new Galaxy colourway, a colourway we think will be very popular come the retail launch of the boot…

You can never criticise the CR7 signature range of being too bland. Nike love showing creativity with virtually every CR7 Mercurial release. Whether it be the ostrich-print Vapor Superfly II Safari, the super limited edition CR Vapor IX or the Black/White/Coin Gold 70s-inspired Vapor VIII, Nike have given us some of the most iconic boots of all time through the CR7 range.

This time, Nike are taking a different route. The new Vapor IX Galaxy is made for the player with no limits. The dark obsidian base on the upper gives the boot a classy feel, yet through the extensive use of stars and the flashes of the night sky, the boot still has a distinctive look about it, topped off with a reflective silver Nike tick and green heel studs. See it for yourself with our special first look images of the boot.

If we had to point out the defining feature of the Vapor IX compared to the Vapor VIII, it would have to be the new dimpled Teijin synthetic upper that has been used for the first time on a Mercurial boot. Dubbed ‘speed control technology’, it has been somewhat surprising that Ronaldo has always settled for boots customised with the lightweight, leather grain Teijin upper adopted from the Vapor VIII. Considering this is a boot made to the demands of Ronaldo, the Vapor IX CR7 Galaxy will appear with the very same leather grain microfiber upper.

The upper of the boot also comes with the Nike ‘All Conditions Control’ (ACC) finish, which ensures the same amount of grip in both dry and wet conditions. People ask a lot of questions about what ACC really is: it is a process the upper is treated to during the manufacturing phase to ensure a consistent feel for the ball at all times, something we will definitely appreciate as we head into the winter months.

The Mercurial is all for the player who wants explosive speed. The soleplate of the Vapor IX is engineered for speed. With direct injected blades and only two studs in the heel of the boot (which are actually neon green), the soleplate maximises stability and traction on the pitch. The boot also comes with a perforated sockliner that mirrors the natural shape of the foot and creates low-profile cushioning for the best comfort while also securing the foot for the best possible fit.

Much like past Mercurial CR releases, the Nike Vapor IX CR Galaxy will also be released alongside a range of sportswear clothing items. Bringing together Ronaldo’s love for fashion and football, the clothing range is a clash of two things close to Ronaldo’s heart. The highlights include a leather track jacket, a water repellent ‘Saturday jacket’ and a CR7 t-shirt made for the ultimate Cristiano Ronaldo fan, all of which will be unveiled next Monday.
