Everton’s Off-season

Everton has had an extremely calm offseason for a Premier League club that exceeded all expectations and finished 5th in the always tough EPL. The only signing of the summer has been last season’s loanee from Manchester City Gareth Barry. Barry was very impressive on loan with Everton last season and is looking to continue thriving under manager Roberto Martinez. Another player looking to do the same is striker Romelu Lukaku, who just signed with The Toffees for a record $47 million.

Martinez has put together a squad he thinks could achieve a Champions League spot next season with the likes of Tim Howard, Ross Barkley, and Leighton Baines. In order to achieve the goal that Everton is shooting for, Martinez should be looking for at least a new central defender to replace an aging Distin and a creative attacker in place of Deulofeu who has returned to Barcelona following a season-long loan. Everton would be an extremely dangerous team if Lukaku and a few new players joined the squad. A Champions League spot would be hard to achieve his season with Premier League giants re-loading as well.
