The creative Barcelona midfielder with long golden locks has been a force to reckon with for the Catalans. Lets take it back to the beginning where it all started for the Croatian international. Rakitic started his career for FC Basel in their youth system before making his first team debut at the age of 17 in 2005. The next season, he became a mainstay in the starting 11 and even was named the Young Player of the Year in the Swiss Super League. He then moved to Schalke 04 in Germany. He would find success in his first season at the club before seeing his playing time dwindle the following year.
After 3 and a half years at the club, he moved to Spain to Sevilla. He found some incredible success including a Europa League title that attracted interest from Barcelona after the 2012/13 season. He was named in the Europa League Team of the Season as well as the La Liga Team of the Season. After Xavi was on the edge of leaving the club, Rakitic saw time on the field almost immediately.
