I have to admit that I was never a real fan of Jordan Morris until the last 9 months or so. He seemed overhyped coming out of Stanford and being signed by the Seattle Sounders. Not that it was his fault. US Soccer was looking for a young player who could become a star on an aging team. He had just led Stanford to a DI Title and crowned the best player. In his debut season in MLS he would win yet another championship while being named MLS Rookie of the Year. In 2017 Morris, was giving more opportunities to take the field in the USMNT Jersey, and would help guide the USA to a Gold Cup victory. His MLS season wasn't nearly as fruitful, and while the Sounders were able to find their way back the the MLS Final, Morris' role down the stretch was nearly eliminated as he struggled with injury. 2018 would see Morris miss the entire season with an ACL injury. In 2019 Jordan would take the pitch again for the Sounders, scoring 10 and supplying another 6 goals in 26 league matches. He would once again lift the MLS Cup after defeating Toronto FC in the finals. His turnaround would earn him Comeback Player of the Year honors.
Transitioning from a central forward to the right wing has given Morris room to use his speed and provide for teammates. While the sample size is not the best, his performances in the CONCACAF Nations League show that he has what it takes to perform. The statistics speak for themselves (4 goals, 4 assists in 4 matches), but it was the way in which he played that suggested that his future is still bright. I am looking forward to seeing him play with the younger players coming through. Hopefully we will get to see the Jordan Morris USA Home Match Jersey hit the pitch sometime soon.
I have progressed from hater to believer when it comes to Jordan Morris' contributions for the USMNT. Show your support for the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year, with the 2020 USA Home Jersey. Whether you support Stars & Stripes or cheer on your local MLS club, SoccerPro has you covered!
