adidas Real Madrid 3rd kit

Here’s a new one. For Real Madrid’s 2014-15 3rd jersey, adidas decided to think outside the box a bit. Now, 3rd jerseys are typically used to present a fresh look rather than the traditional club colors, but what adidas and Real have done here is inventive and just plain cool. Famous Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto has fashioned a fierce black and white 3rd kit that has his signature (literally) marks all over it. We’ve previously seen adidas team up with Yamamoto on their F50 adiZero line a few times before. This time, he blesses Real’s new shirt with twin dragons dancing just behind the Fly Emirates sponsor logo. It’s a suitably majestic and gorgeous look for Los Blancos.

As for those dragons, they aren’t there just to look cool; it’s for symbolical purposes as well. There is the dragon king, which represents the enduring glory and greatness of the Madrid-based club. The other is the dragon bird, embodying the resistance and determination in victory that Real fans have gotten so used to seeing. Those two mythical beasts are intertwined in white, set starkly against an all-black background (apparently his favorite color). Yamamoto sure does know how to catch an eye.

Also in white is the “mao type” collar and three stripes that run down the shoulders. Real’s crest is visible in a dynamic black-and-white that makes it seem somehow more regal than ever before. The shorts and socks feature a similar black/white look that will put other kit designs to shame when they trot it out in Champions League action soon. You can also find Yamamoto’s signature on the inside of the collar, just so you don’t forget.

Real Madrid has always been rich in talent, but now they are rich in stylish and original kit designs. While their home is the classic white, their hot pink away jersey will no doubt turn some heads when they start wearing it out. Cristiano, Bale, James, and company now have some of the most bold and daring kits around for their Champions League title-defending season. They can thank Mr. Yamamoto for giving them the mystique of a dragon itself.
