The stage is set for the Champions League Semifinals with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Paris Saint Germain all qualifying.

Bayern will play 14 times winners Real Madrid in the most played Champions League Fixture of all time, with the first leg at the Allianz on April 30th.

PSG will aim to win their first title, but first have to get through Dortmund who have not reached the semifinals since 2012/13 under then manager Jurgen Klopp. The first leg will be played May 1st at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

Bayern vs Real Madrid

Two titans of the competition square off in a tie that could really go either way. For Bayern, the Champions League remains as the only competition that they can win this season. Despite the way that their domestic campaigns have gone, if Bayern were to win the Champions League, then they would view this season as a success. The only issue is that you can never bet against Real Madrid when it comes to the Champions League. Led by the likes of Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, the Spanish giants are no stranger to winning the Champions League with their most recent victory coming in 2022.

The game will most likely be tight and end to end, as both teams have game changing players in the attack. Harry Kane will lead the line and will play an important role if Bayern want to advance. He is second in the Champions League with 7 goals and will need to leave his mark on the game if Bayern want any chance of advancing.

Real will be riding high off of the heroics of Andrey Lunin against Manchester City. Real’s dynamic attack and stellar defense will be the key over the two legs. The Bayern defense will certainly have their hands full with Vinicius and Rodrygo on the wings, and Jude Bellingham behind them in midfield. Real’s defense looked solid as ever in the quarterfinals second leg and will look to keep Kane and Sane at bay.

Prediction

On paper there is almost nothing separating these teams throughout their campaigns. Bayern will be fueled by the thought of winning their only trophy of the season, and Real will look to continue their marriage with the Champions League. I expect the games to be close and tight, and each team will certainly try to play their style. As much as Bayern need to win in order to save their season, its hard to bet against the kings of the Champions League. I predict Real to reach another final 4-2 on aggregate.

Key Stats

  • Bayern’s top scorer is Harry Kane with 7 goals
  • The team last met in the 2018 Semis with Real going through 4-3 on aggregate

PSG vs Dortmund

Both Group F qualifiers meet for the third time this season in the semifinals with each team looking to secure their place in the final. PSG won one meeting in the group stage before both teams drew on the final matchday to send them both through to the knockout rounds. In what has been an up and down season for Dortmund, a Champions League victory would spell the ultimate success and would mark the first time since 1996/97 that they have won the competition. Standing between them and the final is Kylian Mbappe and PSG who will be looking to reach the final for the first time since 2020.

This tie will be an interesting one, PSG and Mbappe will certainly leave their mark on the game, and it will be up to Dortmund’s defense to see if they can limit the chances that they give up. The more the game gets stretched the more dangerous PSG’s attack becomes. Expect former Dortmund man, Ousmane Dembele, to continue his good form into this tie.

Dortmund lacks the star power of PSG, but that is not to say that they don’t have players that can change the game in an instant. The issue is that Dortmund don’t score a lot of goals, and in a game against PSG you’re going to need to score if you want any chance of going through.

Prediction

It is by no chance that Dortmund have found themselves in this position, beating tough opponents en route to this semifinal, but I just don’t think that they have the superstar, like Mbappe, that can edge them past PSG. I think PSG will be rather comfortable in this tie, as I see them going through 4-1 on aggregate.

Key Stats

  • PSG won 2-0 in September and drew 1-1 with Dortmund in December
  • Kylian Mbappe leads Champions League scoring with 8 goals
  • Dortmund’s top goal scorer in the UCL is Reus with 2 goals
