Champions crowned, dreams shattered, and legends wave goodbye, which must mean that league play has finally come to a close. With only a few big cup matches left to watch, the season is unfortunately on its last legs. But that did not stop us from finding some great boot spots. So without further ado, Boot Spotting is back!

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – Nike Hypervenom Phantom II

A force to be reckoned with up front, Lewandowski and Bayern Munich officially won the Bundesliga title over the weekend. The Polish striker found the back of the net in the 2-0 victory over FC Mainz 05. With the launch of the Hypervenom Phantom II last week, Nike were hoping to have one of their players make the launch even bigger with a goal, and Lewandowski did just that.

Edinson Cavani (PSG) – Nike Hypervenom Phantom II

Adding to the Hypervenom II goal scoring tally, Cavani notched two goals for French Champions PSG. The Uruguayan international was a focal point for the French giants this season is securing their third Ligue 1 title in a row. Nike truly had an ideal start to their Hypervenom launch over the weekend. It would have been the perfect start to the 2nd generation boot if it wasn’t for one little problem…

Neymar (Barcelona) – Nike Hypervenom Phantom – Intense Heat Pack

One of the more interesting boot spots from over the weekend. The headlining athlete for the Hypervenom Phantom chose against wearing the collared boots and instead stuck with the Intense Heat Pack Phantoms. It is interesting to note that Neymar did not even go for the Phinish, which is the true successor to the 1st generation Phantom. It is also not like he did not have time to break in the boots since he has been training in them for almost a month. Could this spell trouble for the Phantom II? I don’t think so. Maybe Neymar just missed the memo to wear them this weekend. We will know if something is truly up when he comes out on the pitch for the Copa del Rey and Champions League Final matches.

Kelvin Davis (Southampton) – T-90 KL-FG Laser 4

It’s not every day a goalkeeper makes it on a Boot Spotting page but this one stuck out to me. With all the latest boots and color ways that all the major brands put out every season, Davis is still rocking the White/Green T-90. The Kanga-lite version was a popular pick for strikers like Wayne Rooney. Although Davis could not keep out two goals from Manchester City, he did have a great performance most of the match. My guess is that with the shot shield on the boot, Davis uses the extra protection when the box gets crowded and he gets his feet stepped on.

Xavi (Barcelona) – adidas Predator Instinct (Custom)

In his last league match for FC Barcelona, Spanish legend Xavi debuted some custom Predator Instinct boots. The Spain national team colors were on the boot with the dominant color being a dark red. The bottom of the boot features a large ‘6’ on it which is his number for the club. The Catalan giants’ fans showed amazing appreciation for his time at the club by showing signs that thanked the midfielder. It will be sad to see him leave the club and it will take some getting used to seeing a different number 6 for Barcelona in the future.

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) – adidas Predator Instinct (Custom)

In another farewell match, Stevie G wore his custom Liverpool-themed Preds in his last Premier League match. Unfortunately for the Englishman, he was unable to score in either match and unable to garner a point in each. The cleats are inspired by the fact that he will never walk a lone with the city of Liverpool with him. It’s always unfortunate when special cleats never seem to win or find the net. Puma had the same issue when they released their boots for Balotelli, Reus, Fabregas, and Aguero. This is not the last time we will see Gerrard as he is headed to MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy. Let’s see if he will continue to wear the Predators or if he will make the switch to the newly-revealed Ace.

Mama Diouf (Stoke City) – Nike Hypervenom Phinish

Adding to the success of the Hypervenom launch, Mama Diouf scored a brace in Stoke City’s rout of Liverpool on Sunday. The striker was one of the many bright spots for the Potters and helped add to the incredible first weekend for the 2nd generation Hypervenom boots. The Phinish is, of course, the real successor of the 1st generation Phantom and is a top end boot just below the Phantom like the Opus and Vapor to the Obra and Superfly, respectively.

Well, that does it for this weekend’s Boot Spotting. What was your favorite boot spot? Let me know down below in the comments!
