With their back against the wall, El Tri saw an early 1-0 lead disintegrate against Panama and a Chicharito penalty did not offer the relief that a troubled football nation had hoped for. Up stepped Raul Jimenez to rescue three points for Mexico and keep their World Cup aspirations alive. Although they still need a positive result in their next game, a goal like this will get any team back to their best.
The commentators said that the Azteca had never seen a goal as great as this (and Pele and Maradona had played here before) and I find it hard to disagree. Hopefully we see more goals like this in the lead-up and once we get to the World Cup. If I knew how to make this goal the background for my computer, TV, phone, Ipad, bedroom window, cubicle wallpaper, and fridge door…I would. Take. A. Bow.
