Mercurial Vapor 16 Rumors

We can’t be the only ones on the edge of our seats waiting for the Nike Mercurial Vapor 16s to get released. The latest entry in Nike’s Mercurial silo, the Vapor 16s represent the next generation in Nike soccer shoes, combining premium Nike features in a stylish but durable package. But is this explosive low-cut boot for you?

A Step Above

Nike has been perfecting the Mercurial silo since Ronaldo’s (not Cristiano, the OG) first pair in 1998. Because of the Mercurial’s lightweight construction, it’s typically donned by legends looking for Nike soccer cleats that won’t slow them down. The Vapor 15 was only 200g and there’s good reason to believe the Vapor 16 will be even lighter.

For the Vapor 16s, Nike has reportedly cut the upper knit down by 30%, resulting in a lighter boot. Shedding all that additional weight allows for a fit that better matches the shape of your foot.

If you’re looking for a next-generation soccer shoe that feels like an extension of you, the Vapor 16 might be the perfect fit. The lighter more natural construction should translate into a more responsive soccer cleat. This can be a real difference maker on the pitch, allowing you to make quick cuts and daring moves.

Built for More Than Speed

Early images seem to suggest another advantage of the latest Mercurial Vapor shoes—better handling. Taking a page from other legendary Nike silos, the Vapor 16s come equipped with GripKnit technology.

The Gripknit upper is typically associated with NIke’s Phantom silo so it’s a bit of a surprise to find it over here on a Mercurial. For game-changing players, though, the combination is a must. Gripknit, if you’re unfamiliar with Nike tech talk, is basically what it sounds like. The shoe’s upper material is soft with a somewhat sticky feel that allows for better control, especially when it comes to making moves that will make a stadium stand up.

The incorporation of Gripknit technology into the Mercurial lineup means an even more durable boot, too. Gripknit stands up a bit better in wetter conditions, so if rain is a gameday concern, the Vapor 16s might be the move.

The Mercurial Vapor 16s are also shaping up to be the choice for playmakers that are ready for a full 90 minutes and Extra Time. Most of the leading soccer shoe brands have been looking for ways to improve energy rebound.

Energy rebound is the amount of energy kicked back to you whenever you take a stride in the shoe. Lose too much energy in each step, and you’ll fatigue faster. In the closing seconds of a match though, you’ll need every drop in the tank. For the Vapor 16s, NIke has made the shoe’s plate even more flexible, allowing more of the energy you put out to come back.

The next-gen Mercurial Vapor 16s are shaping up to be another legendary addition to NIke’s lineup. Grab your pair at SoccerPro when these cleats make their debut!
