New Balance Furon

A full three months have come and gone since New Balance made their anticipated soccer debut with the Visaro and Furon. So far, we have only been introduced to them in a single colorway, which is the exact opposite of adidas’ strategy for their new boots. Where the Three Stripes has, I believe, already colored the ACE and X in everything besides taupe, New Balance has opted to stick with their launch colors until now.

This is a fine strategy, especially when your debut looks as good as theirs. Utilizing a nice mix of blue, orange, and red gave the Visaro and the Furon a fresh aesthetic for their maiden voyage across the high seas of international football.

Now the Boston-based company has released their second round of color updates, with their Serene Green color connecting the two. Let’s dive in.

Visaro

Baltic and Serene Green

New Balance Visaro

Remember that gorgeous blue from the first Visaro? New Balance has turned that brightness dial way down and ended up with a dark blue-green. It’s wonderfully accented by Serene Green, which adds a calm lightness to the rest of the shoe. This one is easy on the eyes.

The Visaro is the Make Chances boot, the creator’s tool to provide scoring opportunities for yourself and/or teammates. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is the poster boy for these, while Samir Nasri, Vincent Kompany, and Marouane Fellaini also slip them on.

Fresh Foam on NB Visaro Pro

A Vari-zone Ariaprene upper allows you to manipulate the ball in uncommon ways and the Fresh Foam footbed gives any midsole on the market a run for its money. Finally, the Super-Flex outsole features a Medial Pivot Zone (in purple) that can help you turn on a dime. If you haven’t checked out our Visaro Pro review quite yet, you can do that to get more info on our (excellent) experience in these.

Furon

Deep Orchid and Serene Green

From red and blue to a cool purple, the Furon has a new paint job in Deep Orchid with Serene Green. Its purple forefoot pleasantly morphs into a blue-green combo on the back. New Balance is proving they have the ability to creatively design a unique look that doesn’t just ape the bright flashes of so many adidas and Nike boots.

This is the Take Chances cleat for those who capitalize on loose balls in the box or open space wherever the defense gives it. Its Fantom Fit cage keeps your foot locked in, while the stiffened soleplate allows for straight-line acceleration.

Outsole of NB Furon

Unlike the Visaro, the Furon has had trouble finding player support. The initial face of the Furon was Adnan Januzaj, but he has been caught wearing a blackout adidas X15.1 and the Nike Mercurial Vapor by our Boot Spotter, Jordon. However, Valencia’s Alvaro Negredo has strapped on the Furon and played quite well of late.

You can get all of your New Balance cleats at SoccerPro.
