Messi's F50 adiZero in neon orange

Fresh off a World Cup finals loss to the mighty Germans just over two weeks ago, Lionel Messi has his latest F50 adiZero released by German company adidas. Hopefully Messi fans take that irony in stride, as Argentina’s magic man was a massive success for adidas during the World Cup. Not only did he take his country to the finals with his four goals and one assist (almost all of them of massive importance), but he gave himself (and adidas) a few “World Cup moments” to play on his highlight reel. Sure, he spent more than a little of his time on the field in Brazil not exactly looking like the world’s greatest player (plenty of people had something to say about FIFA awarding him the Golden Ball), but all in all, World Cup 2014 has to be considered a great success for Lionel Messi.

Back to the new boot. This F50 update comes in Solar Gold, which looks more orange-ish to me, but whatever. Once you get closer, you realize there are words printed on the upper in a lighter gold/orange. It’s a kind of Spanish word collage dedicated to Messi, with “Somos Team Messi” (We are Team Messi) appearing prominently. On the heel, you can find the classic Messi “M” insignia in black to match the black three stripes on either side of the shoe.

The insole is also black, but with a new addition. It features text that reads, “más que un botín”, or “more than a boot”. This, of course, is a cute play off of the motto of Messi’s club, FC Barcelona, who loves to utilize their “más que un club” slogan whenever they can. The tech on this Solar Gold boot is the same as the past few Messi F50s. Its upper is still made of hybridtouch and its outsole still has the Speedtraxion system. These are coming in at $229.99 retail, $206.99 at SoccerPro.

Look forward to seeing Messi sporting these for his first slate of Barcelona matches later this summer. With so many changes at Camp Nou (Puyol gone, the controversial Suarez arriving) before the upcoming season, how will Messi and his new bright orange kicks perform?
