The Pride of London

chelsea home and away

Nike has introduced the brand new Chelsea home and away shirt for the 2020-2021 season and it is as classy as you would expect from the West London club. Both feature a herringbone pattern throughout and a new main sponsor. The company Three, is a large telecommunication company that has sponsored the likes of Ireland’s training-wear range in the past. London has long been known as a hotspot for fashion, and Chelsea are sure to be one of the most stylish teams in the Premier League next year with this kit that is tailor-made for West London.

2020/2021 Away

The Chelsea away shirt takes cool to a whole new level with an Arctic Blue base color and a darker blue herringbone pattern that is common in high-class tailoring. The herringbone pattern is also implemented on the monochromatic club crest. Unlike the home kit, the Chelsea away shirt uses the standard 2020-2021 Vaporknit base template that is seen on other big Nike clubs and federations. The tailoring theme continues with “the Pride of London” running down the side tape along the torso. A new V-neck collar completes the look for this high-fashion inspired Chelsea shirt.

There are a few amazing details in the new Chelsea kit that just exude elegance. The whole concept is a nod to Savile Row bespoke suits that are known for being the best in the world at hand-made tailoring. There are a couple ways that Nike has made this connection, and the first is the unique Nike Vaporknit pattern. Vaporknit is a recent innovation in jersey technology that is a highly engineered body-mapped knit fabric that supports increased airflow by channeling effect and has ribs knitted into it that keeps the material from clinging to your body for better breathability. What makes the the Chelsea jersey Vaporknit different from the others? The Chelsea shirt uses Vaporknit technology to create a herringbone pattern throughout its construction that is a reference to a popular traditional suit  pattern that is commonly used on Savile Row. Another tailoring feature is the font on the “tape” material the runs down the side of the shirt that reads “the Pride of London” in the style that one would find on the tag of a high-end custom suit. Lastly, Chelsea uses a monogramed “CFC” on the cuff of the sleeve that exemplifies the tradition of using monogram letters to personalize tailored formalwear.
