Umbro UX-Accuro

Umbro UX-Accuro

While the world is still stuck on collars and the erasing of laces, some brands are still plowing down a path that feels all their own. Umbro isn’t following the crowd despite being fully aware that it might hurt their standing. A quick trip into knitted materials or an ankle collar would result in some quick fans and a few easy views, but it’s all about returning back to the top for this classic company. How are they going to get there? Painting the town red (or, to be more precise, grenadine)!

The newest addition to the Umbro line-up is the new X-Accuro. Replacing the outgoing UX-1, it is a boot built around an elite level of comfort and chocked full of technology. If you feel like the days of the Predator LZ and CTR360 were the golden days of boots, Umbro has brought the days of uber-tech back to the forefront. We always find ourselves preaching how comfort is the most important aspect of a boot once we dole out another review, and we’re excited about a brand building a boot totally around that concept. The grenadine makes this boot’s features a little more obvious than on the launch colorway, so it helps showcase everything the boot has under the hood.

Umbro Medusae in Grenadine

Umbro Medusae

One of the most underrated features on the market from Umbro is the Medusae. A lightweight build coupled with a ridiculously plush kangaroo leather on the forefoot makes sure that everything comes together for a phenomenal boot. Considering how comfortable this boot is, it’s impressive that Umbro didn’t market THIS boot as being deadly comfortable. The soleplate is one of the few features in the whole set that actually uses white as the predominant color, and it makes it really offset the grenadine of the upper. If you’re thinking of taking your first dip in the Umbro pool, the Medusae is a great jumping off point.

Umbro Velocita II

The final piece of this collection is the Velocita II. With an upper that almost has the appearance of being tiger-striped, it would be an absolute shame if someone in a Hull City jersey doesn’t sport this with their home strip for at least one match. The second iteration of Umbro’s speed silo, the lightweight boot crafts a soft synthetic with an extremely pliable and light soleplate to give speed boot hunters something to really fall in love with. If this boot hadn’t been preceded by the GT Pro, we think Umbro would be near the top of the list for anyone’s lightweight options.

Umbro is heading towards the close of 2016 with a three-pronged attack that few brands can match. Comfort, quality, and a blast to wear…it’s a real shame that more folks aren’t giving Umbro a chance. Keep an eye out for these three boots to steadily gain traction over the next few months as they’re all relatively new and more players will eventually discover the secret of the Double Diamond. We took the dive long ago, and the water has been fantastic ever since…
