The waiting is over. The questions have been answered. Nike has officially released the second kit that the US Womens National Team will be wearing at the World Cup this summer. It has caught some peoples’ attention, as it rightly should. Here’s just a little overview.
The first thing we should mention is the coloring of the kit. The shirt and shorts have a real throwback vibe to them, using exclusively black and white colors. It seems like something straight of an old-time movie or newspaper. Nike has also gone green with these jerseys, using recycled plastic bottles to help create these jerseys.
Speaking of green, you only have to glance downward to notice a yellow-green color on the legs and feet of the players. Starting with the socks, you see the white subtly transform into Volt-green. From the socks, the Volt goes onto the boots, which share the coloring scheme with Nike’s Blue Lagoon colorway (a reference to host nation Canada’s famous lakes). All four of Nike’s silos have received a color makeover to fit with the US jerseys — the first time Nike has created a tournament pack of women’s footwear.
All of the boots have the Volt color near the ankle, as to mesh in with the Volt on the socks, before transforming at various points on the cleats. The Mercurial switches to Blue Lagoon just below the Dynamic Fit Collar, while the Magista only features it on the outsole. On the Tiempo, the two colors split the upper with a Volt outsole residing below. The entire pack features a white Nike Swoosh logo, to tie back into the color of the shirt and shorts.
Overall, the kit has been designed to make a strong visual impact. With such stark contrasts from the bottom of the shoes to the top of the shirt, it’s really an amazing kit from Nike. Between this kit and the Speed Blur away kit, the USWNT will have no worries about looking the part as they attempt to win their third Women’s World Cup.
